Happy Adoption Story
The first time I saw Lakota, he was sitting there in
a cage. He stood up, wagged his tail and licked
my hand as I reached in to pet his ears.
After all he’s been through, Lakota is still this kind,
trusting, loving old soul. It was Jan. of 2008 when
we adopted this two year old golden retriever mix.
I named him Lakota Summer Meadow because
his yellow and white flowing fur reminds me of the
meadows of northern Nebraska in summer. He is
wise beyond his years, the very definition of
unconditional love. He loves to go for walks and
seems to know a lot of hand signals. He was
considered a stray and picked up in the woods. I
don’t know who lost him or what happened, but no
one came for him, no one claimed him. All of
these abandoned pets belonged to a person at
one time, they all deserve to be rescued, but there
are too many. When we first adopted Lakota, I
thought he was lucky to be here, in our home, but
now I understand that I am the one who is blessed
to have him as my friend.
